Nola Darling is Not Insecure
We missed Issa Rae dearly and Nola Darling has come and has filled our proud black woman void in ways unimaginable.
Nola Darling is the revolutionary Black woman, and her sex life is as liberated as her art. Let's talk about it.
She paints the free form Black woman, but she IS the free form Black Woman. She does not allow societal or cultural norms to shape her dating and sexual experiences.
There's Greer Childs the cultured, narcissistic "sex god" as he probably would call himself, who caters to her inner arts and goes out of his way with his grand gestures from dates, to gifts to the bed room.
Then there is Jamie Overstreet the older, "separated" lover who caters to Nola's needs financially. He's the protective, supposedly reliable, wealthy one.
Finally there's my favorite, Mars Blackmon the immature, fun loving lover who caters to Nola's inner child, when Nola needs a friend and wants to go on adventures.
Wait how could I forget Ms. Opal Gilstrap, the beautiful lesbian who Nola got re-acquainted with during her "man cleanse."
Although each of the men wants to have Nola for themselves. Nola has set her rules and manages to juggle all three men effortlessly (minus the occasionally name slip up, which she plays off so well.) She makes it clear that she is not a sex addict because each man speaks to a different part of her.
She even has them all meet each other and she is perfectly fine with letting them know about each other. AS SHE SHOULD ! She is a single woman and she is not doing anything wrong contrary to popular "male" belief.
Men are HORRIFIED by the fact that a woman can be so sexually liberated and they are super eager to label her as a "hoe" or a "freak" (which she hates) but she's just in charge. A woman being in charge of her sexual life in the way that it is stereotyped for a man to be, is a tough pill for men to swallow.
NO WATER FOR THE THIRSTIES ! Nola Darling is not interested in a threesome or a foursome for that matter. She is perfectly satisfied with having each of the men, and Opal, satisfy a different part of her.
The fact that she is single and each of the men know about each other only drives them insane because they know getting upset is pointless because Nola has been transparent and she has no desire for a relationship with any of those men. Knowing there is competition and that none of them is like each other drives the men insane and makes them all more competitive to be the sole receiver of all of Nola's attention and affection.
What drives the men crazy about Nola is the fact that she makes her rules and does things on her terms. Not on the man's terms. The usual male influenced decisions are Nola's and Nola is unpredictable and spontaneous and she LIVES.
